6 Ways to Stay Positive During Hard Times
The majority of the country has had a really tough year. We thought that we were starting to get “back to normal,” and resumimg travel and other daily, normal activities. Now we are hit again with recommended mask wearing and the looming threat of what might be coming our way, or what the future holds for us.
The unknown is hard and frightening for a lot of us. However, I truly believe that sometimes, our hardest times result in a rainbow at the end! It is so important to try to stay positive during hard times, even when that feels practically impossible to do. If you are going through a hard time now or in the future, I hope this list of ways to stay positive during hard times helps a bit. As I write this, I want to work hard to implement more of these tips into my own life.
Take A Minute To Breathe
If your thoughts are often focused on the things you can’t control until the point that you’re exhausted, stop and take a breath. Everything will be okay in the end and you have to trust that. Deep breathing can help you so much when it comes to a moment where you are feeling really stressed out or anxious, and it can also help you significantly when it comes to calming yourself down and getting back to a state of mind where you can really figure things out for yourself. Stress is bad for both mental and physical health, so it is something that you have to be very intentional about. Take a minute to breathe whenever you are feeling overwhelmed and I promise that you will benefit from it greatly!
Figure Out A Game Plan
First – make a list of things that you can manage. Accept what you can’t control and make a list of what you can. Even if all you can control is your attitude and your effort, it’s important to acknowledge what you’re capable of doing. The next step is to create a game plan.
Figure out why you are anxious, sad, or stressed out. How can you change that? Yes, you might be going through a tough time, but you have the power to change not only how you feel (so important!), but also what you do to either stay in this tough time, or reach for the stars and find a way out. Sometimes a game plan takes time to execute and that’s okay. Great things do not happen overnight, but with a little intention and hard work, you will get out of this hard time – and it will give you something to look forward to!
Keep An Open Mind
Sometimes our rock-bottom moments can act as a springboard to launch us toward self-improvement. Whatever you are going through, think of what it has taught you. How can you transform this challenge into an opportunity? Sure, it may take a while, but with the right mindset, you’ll be amazed at the discoveries you make.
Add Positivity Into Someone Else’s Life
Every time the world is struck by disaster, millions of people rally around those affected to show their support. Service is a powerful and life-changing tool, especially in the midst of our own challenges. Selflessness can give us purpose, hope, and strength to carry on.
Stay Positive With Those Around You
Your family and friends can be the beacons of light you need in life. Reaching out to them for support or even just to laugh together can provide the endurance you need to help you keep going.
Make Changes with Your Life
Sometimes, making changes with your life is needed when it comes to staying positive during hard times. Depending on what changes you make, you might be afraid to take the leap, but feeling afraid is not necessarily a bad thing. In fact, when we push ourselves out of our comfort zones, sometimes that is also when the best things come our way. For example, deciding to switch careers (or quit your full-time job) is a huge hurdle, but if your job is not bringing you joy, it can be insanely hard to stay positive on a day-to-day basis. When a hard time comes your way, that just intensifies feelings of st
ress and even depression. Pinpoint the things in your life that do not bring you joy and change them. A few ideas are making a job change, ending a not-so-great relationship, and moving to a new city.
You’re Not Alone, Ask for Help!
Keep in mind, though – you do not have to do it on your own. Ending a job? If you need to start a new one, find a recruiter to help with the process. Getting out of a relationship? Consider talking with a counselor. It can help SO much. Moving? Find
a great moving company that can help you reduce the stress of moving. For example, College Dudes Help U Move is a local residential and commercial moving company. They are even a hot tub moving company in Charlotte NC – they do it all! They are licensed and insured, offer so many services, and truly aim to go above and beyond to make the process easier on their clients. No matter what you need help with, there are many different local companies that can help you get through hard times, while also reducing stress, so make sure you utilize that help!
It can be challenging to stay positive during hard times. But, it is so worth it when you come out on the other side to that beautiful rainbow, and lift others up along the way. Hang in there! You’ve got this! I am sharing some of my favorite quotes on maintaining a positive outlook below. Which is your favorite?
