Last week I started a new feature called Top Five Tuesday. Basically, I will give you my “Top Five” favorites of something each week. Click my post I have linked above for last weeks edition. Since we are so close to Halloween I wanted to count down my favorite Halloween movies.
Before I begin, you should know that nothing on my list is scary. LOL! My sister has always made fun of me for being a scaredy cat. I remember being 10 or 11 and being terrified of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the movie with Luke Perry. Gah, he was the hottest and I wanted to watch it, but I was so scared I slept with the light on for weeks. Hahaha! I can watch it now, and I might, just to see Luke.
My Favorite Halloween Movies
5. The Witches
This movie is based on the book by Ronald Dahl of the same name. I loved to read even as child and Matilda was my favorite book by the same author. I read the book The Witches and loved the movie too, but not as much as the book. Anjelica Huston plays the best witch. I remember the purple eyes and their plan to destroy children. A remake is in the works for 2020 starring Anne Hathaway and I am so excited to see it.
4. Beetlejuice
I am not sure how anyone can’t love Beetlejuice. Michael Keaton is amazing as the character and if they ever try to remake it, I am not sure it would ever live up to him. I also love to rewatch and see Geena Davis, Alec Baldwin and Winona Ryder. I have so many memories associated with watching this movie with my cousin Joyce and singing along to Jump In The Line.
3. The Addams Family
The Addams Family, circa 1991, is the absolute best version. Anjelica Huston as Morticia and Christina Ricci as Wednesday are hands down my favorite. The best scene is the summer camp scene with Wednesday. I still laugh out loud at it. I know there is a new animated version that just released, but I just can’t imagine it would trump this one.
2. Harry Potter
It doesn’t matter how many times I watch these movies, they never get old. I am guessing I could quote most of them, but I still get sucked in when they are on the television. The books are even better, so if you have never read them, get on it. JK Rowling is fabulous. As far as the movies go, my favorite is Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. I just adore Sirius Black and all the things that happen in this one. Are you a Potter fan too? Which is your favorite?
1. Hocus Pocus
A Halloween movie list isn’t complete without Hocus Pocus. Since it was released in 1993, when I was twelve, it has been my favorite. And it has stood the test of time, my daughter who is almost 16 watches it every year with me also. She loves it as much as me. I am pretty sure we can both recite a lot of it verbatim. “It’s just a bunch of Hocus Pocus!”
Did your favorite make the list? I have so many others I love, but I limited to these. Comment and tell me what your favorite is so I can agree or check it out. Well, as long as it is not scary. 😉
