Tie Dye Trend In 2020

The tie dye trend for spring 2020 seems to be here to stay.  Everywhere I look I see this nostalgic print returning.  To be honest, I have a hard time embracing this one.  I did find this crewneck sweatshirt at my local Walmart for under $12, so I decided to give it a whirl.  Plus, let’s be honest, I needed pictures for this post.  😉

All Trends Return Eventually

My sister sent me a meme last week that had a picture of Keds and an overlay of this Bible verse:  What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun., Ecclesiastes 1:9.  Immediately, I had to chuckle.  Especially because this is most assuredly true in fashion.  I can remember wearing Keds (or the knock off version like I have on in this picture!), all the time.  They were the must have shoe when I was in elementary, middle and high school.  Forget $500+ Golden Goose, I just wanted Keds with the blue label on the back!

While I will be okay to embrace the return of Keds, I am not convinced that the tie dye trend is something I will ever fully embrace.  My hope and desire is that this time around, the tie dye trend will be more low key and classy than the 90’s.  I grew up during this time period and so many things we wore, were just not pretty. Haha!

My Opinion On Tie Dye

I am absolutely showing my age, but I remember going to the theatre and watching Clueless, as if!  I distinctly remember the guys in that movie wearing an abundance of brightly colored tie dye.  It looked like a rainbow threw up on them.  Everything was bold, bright, and neon.  And I can’t handle that come back in 2020!

I was able to find some more tame and more classic options for the tie dye trend, if it is something you want to work into your closet.  While I am not ready to fully embrace this trend, there are a few pieces I can get behind.  The top I am wearing in the post today isn’t horrible, but if I had more time to prepare this post, I would have ordered a more subtle, ombre look, like this.

In close, tie dye is never going to be a staple in my closet.  I will probably implement a couple of pieces that I feel will be more classic and subtle.  And I will wear the crewneck sweatshirt featured above for a casual vibe or with leggings if I need a comfy day.  What about you?  Do you love or hate the tie dye trend.  I would love to know in the comments!
