A few weeks ago I traveled to Georgia for a blog conference in Adairsville. I decided that I needed a mental break from life. If you have been around at all, you know that this past year has taken its toll on my sanity.   I decided that I would stay near Atlanta for the night on my way to the meeting. Since I had read a ton about The Hotel at Avalon, I treated myself to a night away.

Something you should know about me is that I struggle with taking a break. Even on this trip I had a hard time disconnecting and not working, but it was a break from the ordinary. It is always difficult to find balance in life as a woman. Maybe it is just me, but I feel pulled in a lot of different directions every day; mom, wife, employee, friend, family…you name it. And I am the worst at saying no. I always want to be helpful to others. But for this trip, I was completely selfish. And I have to say, I am going to have to do it more often.

You are probably wondering, what is so great about this hotel? And why did I choose to stay here out of all the places in and around Atlanta? I am so glad you asked! I have laid out the 3 biggest reasons you should choose to stay here on your next visit.

Location, Location, Location!

One thing I have had drilled into my mind from the time I was born, was to be smart and cautious and to pay attention to my surroundings. I could just hear my Mama in my mind fussing at me for being alone in “a big city”. She would have been a nervous wreck if she knew I was all alone in Georgia! And that is a big reason I chose The Hotel at Avalon. The area is so safe and upscale. I knew it would be the ideal place to stay, especially as a woman traveling alone.

Additionally, Alpharetta is not in downtown Atlanta but close enough that you can get there in a few minutes. It is the perfect location to enjoy the events, concerts, and other experiences that Atlanta offers without feeling like you have to stay in the heart of the city. I consider it to be the best of both worlds.

Since The Hotel at Avalon is located inside Avalon, an upscale mixed use development, you can walk to some great shops and restaurants. For those local to me in Western NC, think Biltmore Park but higher end. Some of the shops include Banana Republic, Chanel Beauty, Crate and Barrel, Kendra Scott and more! The dining options are too many to count, and I wish I could have tried them all.

I had dinner at Marlow’s Tavern and it was fantastic and I had a cider at Barley Garden, which I loved. Other options include The El Felix, Farm to Ladle, Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, Rumi’s Kitchen and many more. They have great events a lot of evenings also. It is seriously the perfect location if you want a lot to do but don’t want to deal with traffic.

The Hotel Itself

From the moment I walked in the entrance of The Hotel at Avalon, I was sold. The lobby is breathtaking with all of the magnolia flowers, fireplace, décor and artwork. It was absolutely stunning and screamed Southern charm. I could have sat in the lobby all day just enjoying the ambience. The check-in desk is back past the gorgeous lobby, but still so classy. The best part about the check in process is that they have cookies and tea for you, if you want. What self-respecting southern girl can turn down sweet tea and warm cookies?

Once I checked into the hotel and given my key, I could access the elevator and head to my room. (Side note, I love that I had to have a key to get in the elevator, reference my love for safety earlier in the post.) I have to be honest, I had looked at the photos of the hotel online, but so many hotels I have stayed at in the past, the photos look so different when you arrive. But not at The Hotel at Avalon, the room was impeccable and just as I imagined.

The king size bed was luxurious and had a chaise lounge next to it that would be perfect for reading. The bathroom and shower were modern and sleek. And I really just wanted to put on a big fluffy robe and girl up with a good book and forget everything else! In this instance, the photos do not do the room actual justice. They are so gorgeous!

The Amenities

The Hotel at Avalon had me at “rooftop pool”. LOL! I love to sit in the sun by the pool and let all the rest of life drift away. When I discovered they had a rooftop pool, it was like Christmas morning for me. Haha! It is the little things that make me happy. As soon as I checked in I went straight to the pool to relax. It really is so beautiful there. They also have cabanas you can rent if you want. Plus the Magnolia bar is there if you want to sip your tropical drink by the pool. They also had a fabulous gym facility, but let’s be honest; I wasn’t going to actually use it on this trip!

Truthfully, there are so many great perks inside this hotel from the Starbucks and South City Kitchen restaurant to the beautiful lobby there are just too many to count. If you are looking for the perfect place to stay on your next trip to Atlanta, I highly recommend The Hotel at Avalon. You will not be disappointed and you will walk away feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. My only complaint is that I wish I could have stayed longer!
