Harry Potter Costume: Fleur Delacour
You may not know that I am an avid reader. I love all kinds of genres and have a special love for paranormal books. Now when I say paranormal, I am not talking Stephen King. Stephanie Meyers Twilight is more my speed. Vampires, Witches, Werewolves and things of that nature are only for me if they have some kind of love or human connection and a story that catches my attention from the beginning.
Many years ago when the final Harry Potter book was released and everyone was all excited over it, I could not figure it out. I think I was under the impression that they were for kids only or that I would hate them. But everywhere I turned it was Harry Potter. Our local library has an annual book sale and while there I saw the first book for a quarter. I bought it with the sole intention of saying, “Yeah, I read it and I don’t get the hype”.
Wow, did it backfire on me. From the first chapter I was hooked. And for the next two weeks, I did nothing but read HP books. I woke up and read, had a lunch break and read, went home and read. I don’t really know how I managed anything else. Haha! Needless to say, I am a Potterhead for life. And I would challenge anyone that hasn’t read them and thinks they would hate them to give them a try.
Fleur Delacour Information
All of this Harry Potter history is so I can segway into my Halloween costume for this year. I have always wanted to be a HP character for Halloween but everyone is Hermoine at some point. I don’t have red hair so Jenny is out too. And while shopping on Chicwish, I saw the perfect skirt and top combo that I could use to create a Fleur Delacour costume. Now, I love Fleur for several reasons. One being that she is part Veela so she is a bit of a siren and youthful. (For reference, you can find the full definition of Veela here.) I don’t proclaim to be those things, but I can maybe channel a teenager in my almost 40 body, right?
If you haven’t read Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Fleur travels to Hogwarts to compete in the Triwizard Tournament, from her school Beauxbatons Academy of Magic. Fleur was chosen as champion of her school and competed against Cedric Diggory, Viktor Krum and Harry. I won’t ruin the story if you haven’t read or watched the movies, but she is a a great character; brave and beautiful. The perfect combo. ?
Creating the Costume
As I mentioned earlier, I found most of the pieces for this Harry Potter costume for myFleur Delacour look on Chicwish. From the moment I saw the A-line blue skirt and light blue cape top, I knew it was meant to be. I added the hat from Amazon and I couldn’t be happier with the way it turned out.
While I love this costume, one of the things I love the most is that I can reuse the skirt and top and wear them in lots of other ways for great every day looks! This skirt would look so cute with a solid top or sweater or a fun print button up. I think the blue top would be great with a pencil skirt or dress pants for the office too. If you are going to spend money on a costume, at least have pieces you can wear all year!
In close, I want to know a few things. If you are a HP fan, which house are you? I am a Hufflepuff. Which makes total sense because I am loyal to a fault. Just for fun I posted the original Fleur GIF along with my own version. Tell me if you think it is accurate. LOL! And what is your Halloween costume? Comment and let me know! Have a great day and thanks for stopping by today!
